History

1949 Professor Wakabayashi was inaugurated as the first professor of department of radiology.
1967 RALSTRON was developed with Shimadzu corporation.
1968 Betatron was located.
1970 Cobalt radiation therapy system was located.
1971 Professor Irie was inaugurated as the second professor of department of radiology.
1977 LINAC was located.
1988 Exclusive CT for radiation therapy planning was developed.
1992 Professor Miyasaka was inaugurated as the third professor of department of radiology.
1998 New hospital building was constructed. Department of radiation therapy was established in the new hospital. LINAC, microselectronHDR and RTPS were provided. Real-time tumor-tracking radiotherapy(RTRT) system was developed with Mitsubishi Electric corporation.
1999 Oral presentation about RTRT system at ASTRO was performed. Paper about RTRT system was published on the LANCET.
2000 Patent in Japan was taken out for RTRT system.
Stereotactic body radiotherapy was approved as Highly advenced medical treatment in Hokkaido University hospital for the first time in Japan.
2001 Patent in USA was also taken out for RTRT system.
2004 Streotactic body radiotherapy for lung and liver cancer was admitted by Japanese health insurance. Department of health sciences, school of medicine was established. Professor Nishioka was inaugurated.
2006 Professor Shirato was inaugurated as the fourth professor of department of radiology.
2008 IMRT was admitted by Japanese health insurance.
2009 “Advanced radiation therapy project -Real-time tumor-tracking with molecular imaging technique-” was adopted by Funding program for world-leading innovative R&D on science and technology(FIRST program).
2010 Varian CLix started to treat patients. Oncentra for RALS planning was located. Professor Aoyama was inaugurated as the professor of department of radiology in Niigata University.
2011 Optima580(GE Healthcare) was located for exclusive CT for radiation therapy planning. Another varian CLix started to treat patients.
